Extreme Heat, Thunderstorms & Power Outages – Oh My [Hair]!

So it’s extra hot outside, a ridiculous thunderstorm comes through, annnnnd the power goes out? Talk about a recipe for a hair disaster.  I was already scheduled for a relaxer when the storm came and power decided to go out, now I’m scared to put a comb through my hair. Lol j/k

Anyhoo, I’ve literally had no recourse with my hair over the past few days: my top 3 Dominican salons (for relaxer application) all lost power; I shampooed & deep conditioned my hair and let it air dry (12 weeks post relaxer by the way) and I was talked into going to the pool where I got my hair wet (need I say more?).

The last couple of days have taught me the importance of deep conditioners & leave-in conditioners – I mean, after this week, they’re right up there with bread and water for the following reasons:

  1. If you put a leave-in conditioner on your hair before entering the pool, you won’t have crunchy, hard, dry hair hours after the pool.
  2. A bit of leave-in conditioner mixed with a splash of water help slick back your hair into a ponytail and gives a nice polished look to what is untamable once let out.
  3. Being 12 weeks post relaxer, I was scared to wash my hair because detangling might mean a lot of pulling and tugging – but the Dominican deep conditioners are amazing and if you leave a tad bit of deep conditioner in your hair for the detangling process, you’ll be in good shape! I was amazing at how little hair was left in my comb after using the deep conditioner.

Here’s a picture of my hair the day after the storm hit. I ended up washing my hair with the BPT Wheat Germ Shampoo, adding some Silicon Mix Pearl Protein Conditioner to my hair and mixing the Lacio Lacio and Baba de Caracol Leave-In to my hair. I crunched my hair together with my hands in an attempt to give it a “wild natural look”… ;P

NOTE: It may look “cute” to the unknown eye – BUT don’t try running your fingers through that mess!! ;) Any tips or tricks you’d like to share from the past few days?

Although not a Dominican product, my Dominican salon has always used perfect for perms finishing cream, on super hot days I use the oil spray that I will never normally use because it’s so oily but on hot days it really keeps your hair sleek I spray it on comb through and twist my hair loosely leaving some strands around my face. It’s effortless and looks so chic and effortlessly sexy!
